Accessibility Statement
SpeechMatters is committed to making its website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard and are continually working to improve the accessibility of our site.
1. Our Commitment
We believe that everyone should be able to access information about our services easily and without barriers. This is particularly important to us as a speech and language therapy practice — we work every day with people who communicate differently, and we want our website to reflect that inclusive approach.
2. What We Have Done
We have taken the following steps to make this website accessible:
- Keyboard navigation: All pages can be navigated using a keyboard alone, without requiring a mouse.
- Skip link: A "Skip to main content" link is available at the top of each page for keyboard and screen reader users.
- Screen reader support: We use semantic HTML elements and ARIA attributes to support screen reader users. Decorative icons are hidden from assistive technology.
- Colour contrast: Text and interactive elements have been designed to meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast requirements.
- Resizable text: Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
- Alternative text: All meaningful images have descriptive alternative text.
- Descriptive links: Links are written to make sense out of context.
- Reduced motion: Animations and transitions are disabled for users who have requested reduced motion in their operating system settings.
- Language: The page language is set in the HTML to assist screen readers.
3. Known Limitations
While we strive to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA, there may be some areas of the website that do not yet fully meet this standard. We are aware of the following:
- Some older PDF documents linked from the site may not be fully accessible. We aim to replace these with accessible versions over time.
- Video content, where present, may not have captions or audio descriptions. We are working to address this.
If you encounter any accessibility barriers not listed here, please let us know using the contact details below.
